Middle Georgia State University Unveils New Eastman Maintenance Hangar

MACON, Ga. - Middle Georgia State University (MGA) celebrated the ribbon cutting of its new aviation maintenance hangar on the Eastman Campus—marking a major milestone in the continued growth of the University’s School of Aviation and its commitment to workforce development across the State of Georgia.

Approximately one year after the project’s groundbreaking, university leaders, project partners, and community members gathered to celebrate the new facility, which expands MGA’s hands-on instructional capacity and strengthens its position as a regional leader in aviation education.

The project delivers a new free-standing maintenance hangar dedicated to supporting FAA-required maintenance operations for MGA’s training aircraft fleet, along with the renovation and reconfiguration of existing campus facilities to better serve students and faculty. Together, these improvements significantly enhance instructional space, student services, and faculty offices—ensuring the campus can continue meeting growing enrollment and industry demand.

Designed to support immersive learning, the new hangar provides students with modern, real-world training environments that mirror professional aviation maintenance operations, preparing graduates for high-demand careers in aviation maintenance and flight services.

The project team included Pond, which provided planning, architectural, interior design, engineering, and construction administration services in collaboration with concept architect Flynn-Finderup.

“This facility represents a major investment in Georgia’s aviation workforce,” said university representatives at the ceremony. “The Eastman Campus plays a critical role in meeting statewide workforce needs, and this new hangar ensures we have the capacity to continue expanding our programs while delivering high-quality, hands-on training.”

Project partners also included the Georgia State Financing & Investment Commission, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents, Abbeville Commissioning, and Hendessi & Associates, LLC—whose collaboration was instrumental in bringing the facility to life.

With continued growth in aircraft maintenance and flight training programs, the Eastman Campus remains a vital pipeline for aviation professionals across Georgia. The new hangar positions Middle Georgia State University to support that demand for decades to come—creating opportunity for students while strengthening the state’s aviation industry.
