MACON, GA. - Lakeview Pointe, the new 310-bed residence hall at Middle Georgia State University, departed from recent wooden structure projects in favor of a steel and concrete construction to provide higher quality, durability, and longevity. It is a structural steel and structural coldformed metal-studded building consisting of LVT flooring, brick, storefront windows, and metal panel veneer. With energy efficiency as a primary focus, the design includes features such as a variable refrigerant flow HVAC system, commercial tankless water heaters, and LED lighting throughout.

Site improvements include brick paver sidewalks, additional lighting, emergency call boxes, and a reworked athletic field. Trash services were handled by building an exterior trash enclosure with a compactor.

The project, delivered through the design/build delivery method, is a shining example of how projects are achieved – meeting the Owners' goals and requirements while using agencies all within budget – and on schedule. The student housing complex was designed and under construction in approximately six months. Moreover, although the timeline was impacted by weather delays and COVID-19, decreasing the project team by half, Piedmont Construction Group still completed the project on schedule.
